"I don't have an attorney in my back pocket to fight them," the Precinct 2 Commissioner said, urging the court to close loopholes in the county's agreements.
County Judge and other commissioners discussed enforcement options, including the possibility of shutting a road for public safety and pursuing stronger contractual language to ensure restoration. One commissioner noted the practical difficulty of policing continuous heavy use on rural roads and urged collaboration with other oil-and-gas counties to identify best practices.
The court did not adopt new language at the meeting. Instead the court agreed to refer the road-bond and road-use permit documents to county counsel for legal review and potential revision to add clearer enforcement mechanisms and remedies. The item was tabled for later action pending counsel's recommendations.
The Precinct 2 Commissioner said he had secured some corrective work through direct pressure on the contractor but remained concerned about future projects and repeated damage. Commissioners asked staff to consider coordinated meetings with neighboring counties and to bring back recommended contract language and enforcement strategies.
No formal vote to amend the permit or adopt new enforcement language was taken at the meeting; the court voted only to refer the documents to counsel for review and to revisit the item later.
