Summary
The Commissioners Court adopted a resolution recognizing Linda Mays for decades of federal service and local advocacy for veterans and caregivers; Mays described the Borderplex Veteran and Caregiver Expo’s local impact and ongoing work.
The El Paso County Commissioners Court on Monday adopted a resolution honoring Linda Mays for her work as a veteran caregiver, former federal agent and community advocate, the court said during a short ceremony.
Judge Samaniego read the resolution into the record, citing Mays’s federal service with U.S. Customs and Immigration and Naturalization Service, her later assignments with intelligence agencies and her leadership in founding the Borderplex Veteran and Family Caregiver Expo. The court cited the expo’s role in connecting veterans with benefits and services and noted that the Elizabeth Dole Foundation selected El Paso as a launch site for its “I Am a Caregiver” campaign in 2024.
During brief remarks, Mays said the recognition reflected a community effort and credited local partners and national organizations for supporting caregivers. She told the court the expo now reaches thousands: according to remarks read into the record, the expo connects more than 1,900 veterans with benefits in a single event and draws more than 2,000 participants annually.
