The St. Bernard Parish School board on Sept. 23 approved a set of routine governance items, including new nutrition and physical activity wellness policies, renewal of two insurance contracts, and the adoption of one-time, legislature-funded staff stipends and a differentiated compensation plan. Board members also heard an enrollment update showing 7,449 students enrolled in preK–12 programs.
The wellness policies were approved following a committee recommendation. "I move that we accept the nutrition and physical activity policies," said Miss Dysart; the motion, seconded by Miss Lee Bowman, passed with an 11‑0 voice vote. The board also approved a renewal of general liability, auto liability and legal liability coverage with the Louisiana Risk Management Agency (LARMA) and authorized the superintendent to sign the required Louisiana uninsured motorist form. That motion, moved by Mister Long and seconded by Mister Warner, passed 11‑0. The board approved a renewal of cyber liability insurance with Travelers Casualty Insurance Company of America on a motion by Mister Warner, seconded by Miss Creason; that vote also passed 11‑0.
Board members amended salary schedules to adopt a one-time stipend compensation plan and a one-time differentiated compensation plan funded by appropriations from the state legislature. The board approved the one-time stipend plan by joint acclamation (motion by Miss Dysart; second by Mister Campbell) and approved the differentiated compensation plan (motion by Miss Lee Bowman; second by Mister Long); recorded votes were reported as unanimous.
On enrollment, a district staff member, Miss Bocek, told the board, "As of today, we have enrolled with our pre k through 12 program, 7,449 students," and provided a level-by-level breakdown in the packet. Board members asked whether the count would affect state funding; district staff said the official October 1 count determines Minimum Foundation Program (MFP) calculations and that a decrease in enrollment would likely reduce MFP funding starting with that calculation.
Personnel items for September were presented by Miss Albers. The personnel update listed a short-term medical leave for a staff member; Albers said an existing staff member at the school was covering some responsibilities and that the employee is expected to return before the end of the month. The board accepted the personnel report and placed routine personnel items on file.
Other routine business included incorporation of the general committee meeting minutes of Sept. 9 into the Sept. 23 record (motion by Mister Warner, seconded by Miss Dysart; motion passed 11‑0) and approval of the Aug. 26 regular meeting minutes as published (motion by Miss White, seconded by Miss Creason; motion passed).
Superintendent Doris Voshek and communications staff highlighted district outreach and programming in a "Super News" segment. Jason Dewey, director of school operations, and several new assistant principals were introduced; the board heard about community partner donations and student awards and activities across the parish.
The board adjourned after routine business and superintendent notes about upcoming events, including a ring day and fall break dates.
