During a public session after executive session, the Juneau City and Borough mayor reported that the city attorney was alerted by Alaska Legal Services that at least one Telephone Hill resident had not been properly served notice that the city was ending their rental agreement. The mayor said follow-up with the property manager, JPR Management, showed the company had not provided legal proof of service.
City staff said they verified that emails were sent on May 28 and August 17 and that notices were posted on doors, but those efforts were not documented as legal service. The mayor said new notices to vacate would be provided the following day and that tenants would be required to move out by Nov. 1. The mayor added the city will seek compensation for any damages.
The report came as the assembly concluded an executive session in which the attorney had updated the body on a set of litigation matters, including Telephone Hill. No formal motion or vote was recorded on the floor beyond the mayor’s announcement; the mayor framed the next steps as city staff actions.
The assembly did not discuss additional details about the specific litigation or the total number of tenants affected. Further details about any legal filings, relocation assistance, or appeals were not provided at the meeting.
