County staff to reschedule dog-board reappointments for public input; board notes efficiency of board hearings

Staff said four of five positions are occupied by volunteers willing to be reappointed; one position remains vacant. Leah said the county had shifted hearings from a single hearings officer to a five-member dog board to improve scheduling and reduce the time animals spent in county facilities while awaiting hearings.
Commissioners asked whether any cases were pending; staff replied there were no cases pending before the board. Several commissioners recommended that the reappointments be noticed for public input and moved to the next weekly business session to allow members of the public to comment. The board agreed to prepare the reappointment matter for the Aug. 21 weekly business session (noting the scheduling in the transcript) and to seek public input before taking final action.
No reappointments were finalized on Aug. 12; staff will present the reappointment board order at a future, publicly noticed session.
