The council approved a budget amendment to formally designate town funds as the local match for a dog park capital grant application.
Luke, the recreation director, told the council staff had previously earmarked $15,000 from storm-recovery funds to serve as the required 1-to-1 match but that the state Tourism Development Authority (TDA) clarified the match must be formally designated in the town budget to make the application eligible. "This amendment does not increase our overall budget. It reallocates the $15,000 we've already earmarked for storm recovery to serve as the 1 to 1 match," Luke said.
When the council moved the approving motion on the floor, the motion recorded in the meeting stated an amendment amount of $50,000 to serve the required match; the council approved the motion by voice vote. The record therefore shows council approval of a budget amendment motion as stated on the floor; staff had previously indicated $15,000 would be used and said they would reapply for the grant by the stated deadline.
Council members had no further questions and the motion carried by voice vote. The recreation director will proceed with the grant application and the town will reallocate the designated funds in the budget to meet the TDA requirement.
The council did not specify additional budget line items or legislative identifiers in the meeting minutes; staff are expected to reflect the reallocation in formal budget documents and to confirm the correct match amount in subsequent accounting entries.
