Taft — The Taft City Council on Tuesday swore in two new Taft Police Department officers, heard the department’s monthly statistics and approved the consent calendar covering items 11–15 by a 5–0 roll-call vote.
The council administered oaths to Juan Topete and Bryce Veach in a brief ceremony early in the meeting attended by family and department staff. Police Chief McMinn introduced the officers and described their training history, saying Veach and Topete completed consecutive academies: “he did back to back academies, I believe, 16 weeks and then another 24 weeks, something to that nature.” Chief McMinn invited the public to a graduation/stage ceremony for the two officers scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. at Harvey Hall Auditorium, Bakersfield High School.
