Mount Shasta City Council on July 28 unanimously appointed Melissa Dodd, the city’s finance director, to the elected office of city treasurer for the remainder of the current term after the incumbent announced an August resignation.
Councilmembers said the resignation by elected treasurer Shalani Hansko creates a vacancy the council may fill within 60 days. Dodd volunteered to serve; councilmembers noted the only duty she would not immediately perform is countersigning checks, which other authorized signatories will continue to handle until procedures for swearing in are arranged.
Council took a motion to appoint Dodd to the treasurer position for the rest of the term; the motion was seconded and approved by unanimous voice vote. Council asked staff to coordinate with city attorney and court official John Kennedy about swearing-in logistics, with the expectation that a formal swearing-in would occur at a subsequent meeting if necessary.
