Papillion La Vista board approves boundary plan and names new school Lincoln View Elementary

The Papillion La Vista Community Schools Board of Education on Aug. 4 approved a boundary map for the district's future Elementary School 17 and selected its name.
Board members voted to adopt boundary Concept 2 for Elementary 17 and to allow grandfathering for students who will be in fifth or sixth grade when the school opens, and to allow grandfathering for active-duty military families with the protocol details to be set by district staff. The board also chose Lincoln View Elementary School as the permanent name for Elementary 17.
Administrators presented three staff recommendations carried forward from earlier work: approval of boundary Concept 2, grandfathering for fifth- and sixth-grade students during the 2026–27 transition year, and grandfathering provisions for active-duty military families. Board member motions to approve the boundary and the grandfathering provisions were made and carried on roll call votes.
Board members discussed the tradeoffs between naming the school for local geography versus a name with broader historic or civic associations. Some trustees noted that “Lincoln” had both a geographic tie (Lincoln Road near the site) and a civic tie (Lincoln is Nebraska’s capital), and members said the suffix "View" helps distinguish the school from other local and regional schools named Lincoln. Several trustees said they favored the distinguishing quality that "Lincoln View" provides.
The board approved the motion to name the school Lincoln View Elementary School on a roll-call vote.
District staff said further details on grandfathering for military families will be developed as part of implementation planning. The board did not change start dates or other operational details at the meeting.
The boundary and naming steps are expected to guide staff work for assignment letters, school culture planning and community outreach ahead of the school opening.
