Superintendent outlines summer preparations: MTSS 'Lions Time', schedule review and new district app

Superintendent Dr. Best told the Lower Moreland Board of School Directors on Aug. 5 that the district has used the summer to prepare for the upcoming school year, launching a K–8 multi-tiered system of supports the administration will call "Lions Time," initiating a high school schedule review, and readying a new website and mobile app.
The superintendent described Lions Time as "a daily dedicated block, for reading and math, offering rehearsal remediation or enrichment for students as they need in small, flexible groups." The initiative is intended to give teachers scheduled time to address differentiated academic needs in K–8.
Dr. Best also said a committee led by high school administrators and the superintendent will conduct a "brain-based" academic schedule evaluation for the high school, with the goal of making a recommendation to the board in the fall and looking at start and end times for middle school and Murray Avenue to create sheltered time for teacher planning and professional development within the contractual day.
Other summer work included an administrator professional-development series on topics such as technology's impact on the brain, AI tools, the Eisenhower framework and Stanford design thinking; and final preparations for a new district website and mobile app to improve ADA-compliant communications with families.
Dr. Best said the district plans to provide monthly updates to the board and weekly items in board reports as the schedule-evaluation work proceeds.
