Fort Myers Beach — The Town Council handled a series of administrative items and routine approvals on Monday, Oct. 20. Several actions were passed unanimously with little additional discussion: appointments to an advisory board, special-event permitting, and ongoing professional services agreements.
Appointments: The council rescinded a prior set of appointments and voted to appoint four people to the Cultural & Environmental Learning Center advisory board (CELCAD). The newly appointed members were Ellen Vaughn (top vote), Carolyn McCown, Rebecca Werner and Lori Wolf. Councilors cast ballots and then moved to rescind the prior appointments before formally approving the four nominees; the motion carried unanimously.
Special event permit: The council approved a request from the community group What's Up FMB to hold a lanterns/illumination parade on Nov. 15. Organizer Dawn Miller described battery‑operated lanterns carried on poles (not open flames) and said the group will offer several workshops and sign‑ups through a What's Up FMB Facebook page. The council approved a special‑event permit for the parade unanimously.
Professional services and contracts: The council approved a supplemental task authorization (STA No. 1) with Access Infrastructure in an amount not to exceed $280,000 to provide GIS, technical and special project management support for FY2025‑26. The council also approved a set of seven ongoing miscellaneous professional services agreements (ADG Architecture LLC; Bowman Consulting Group; CW3 Engineering; LGA Engineering; Tetra Tech; Traffic & Mobility Consultants; Weston & Sampson) following staff negotiations; the action implements the town's long‑term roster of consultants to support planning, engineering and related needs. All motions carried unanimously.
Other routine actions: Minutes were approved and consent agenda items were handled with no removals. The council also approved change orders and supplemental agreements described elsewhere on the agenda (see separate coverage of dune plantings and Coastal Engineering STA).
