Hardin County proclaims October Breast Cancer Awareness Month; Gift of Life highlights free screenings

Hardin County's Commissioner's Court on Oct. 14 adopted Resolution 31-25 proclaiming October 2025 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the meeting day as Gift of Life breast and ovarian cancer awareness day in Hardin County.
Norma Sampson, executive director of the Gift of Life program, thanked the court and described local services. "We've been so blessed and honored to collaborate with the Hardin County Health Department," Sampson said. She told the court the program provided screening and diagnostic services this summer to more than 1,050 men and is expanding women’s services in Hardin County to include preventive breast-health screenings, diagnostic mammograms, ultrasounds and biopsies for underinsured women. The program offers educational presentations and can visit businesses or churches for outreach.
Hardin County Health Director Linda Whitley joined Sampson at the meeting. Sampson also described community events tied to the initiative, including the annual Julie Richardson Proctor Monster Dash in downtown Beaumont, which the program uses to celebrate survivorship and promote awareness.
The court voted to adopt the proclamation by voice vote. Court members encouraged outreach and asked staff to help spread information about eligibility for the free services.
