Lemoore announces fall events, utility assistance and shelter outreach at Oct. 21 meeting

City Manager Marissa Trejo and department heads briefed the council on city events and public-safety outreach. Trejo reminded residents that the downtown candy crawl runs Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and she said there will be a street closure on Bush Street from about 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday from the west side of Willow to the eastern entrance of the Best Buy shopping center. Police and fire department activities tied to Red Ribbon Week include school visits and canine demonstrations.
In council reports, representatives discussed social services and partnerships. A representative summarized Kings Community Action Organization (KCAO) programs, saying the home- and energy-related assistance program serves about 1,000 clients per year with one-time payments of up to $1,500 (income requirements and fund availability apply). The transcript also said KCAO is accepting online applications and that applicants may wait up to 90 days for posting to utility accounts while the agency notifies utility providers that assistance is forthcoming.
The Kings County Homelessness Collaborative has canvassed neighbors around a planned low-barrier shelter and recruited five neighbors to join an advisory committee, the council was told. The soup kitchen is seeking volunteer help for its lunch program, councilors said. Council members and staff also noted local business openings (Boba Club and Golden Lumpia) and an upcoming Lemoore Library groundbreaking scheduled for the 30th.
Council members encouraged public participation in events and volunteer activities and thanked community partners for past events such as the recent rib cook-off fundraiser. Chief Kendall and representatives from Kings County Fire Department introduced collaborative community-safety plans and said joint activities are planned at local schools and events.
No formal votes were required for these announcements; the meeting proceeded to consent items and a scheduled closed session.
