Commissioners consider additional $10,000 to Mesa County coalition fighting proposed air-quality Rule 31

Montezuma County commissioners discussed whether to provide an additional $10,000 to a coalition led by Mesa County to help cover legal fees related to a proposed air-quality regulation identified in discussion as “Rule 31.”
A staff member asked the board to disperse an additional $10,000, noting the county had previously contributed $10,000. County staff said the funds would come from the county budget and that the coalition has been spending its initial allocation quickly. A county staff speaker explained that the Colorado Air Quality Control Commission had continued its decision on the rule until its December meeting, in part because commissioners found the proposal complex and sought more time.
Commissioners did not record a vote in the workshop. One commissioner said the board would take up the matter at the next county meeting.
