Committee reinstates UW–Parkside agreement; golf division reports strong summer rounds

The Kenosha County Public Works & Facilities Committee approved reinstating an agreement that allows UW–Parkside golf players to use county courses during their season for a fee of $95 per rostered player.

Jim Wallace, speaking for the county golf division, told the committee the agreement mirrors the prior year’s terms. He said the university pays $95 for each rostered player, the county inputs rosters into its system and the players can use county facilities within designated windows to avoid displacing prime-time revenue. “They do have very specific windows where they can and can’t play,” Wallace said, adding the players “take good care of the course.”

Committee members asked about roster size and scheduling. Wallace said the team roster had been about 14 players split between men's and women's programs last year and that this season’s roster would likely be under 20. Supervisors confirmed the arrangement would not displace peak weekend times; Wallace said the team plays typically between 9 a.m. and midafternoon on weekdays and avoids busy league times.

In his division report, Wallace said July rounds were high — the division recorded about 21,500 rounds across courses in July, a strong month though slightly under last year’s record pace by roughly 1,850 rounds. He described staffing as “really good” with 10 full-time positions filled; seasonal turnover is expected as students return to school. Wallace also updated the committee on course projects, including tree cleanup after a May storm, planned storage for golf carts near the Bridal Clubhouse, and exterior storage-building plans for Brightdale.

The motion to reinstate the UW–Parkside agreement passed unanimously by voice vote.
