The Hallandale Beach City Commission on Aug. 20 presented proclamations and public recognitions to local nonprofit partners and community programs.
The commission issued a proclamation recognizing National Diaper Need Awareness Week in support of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Diaper Bank. Adora West, vice president of the Diaper Bank, described monthly distributions to families through 19 social-service partners across Broward County and said the nonprofit provides direct diaper delivery and has monthly distributions. Mayor Joy Cooper highlighted the Diaper Bank's role in supporting families and early education access.
The commission also proclaimed September 2025 as Hunger Action Month and invited Feeding South Florida representatives to the dais. Tracy Wigan and Feeding South Florida staff described programs that provide food, SNAP assistance navigation and senior meal preparation; staff said Feeding South Florida prepares about 2,000 daily meals for seniors in the region and partners with local agencies and grocery stores.
The commission presented recognition to City of Hallandale Beach Police Department personnel for their role as a "diamond sponsor" of Christmas in July, a long-running volunteer effort that provides clothing, toiletries and necessities to thousands of homeless children in Broward County each year. Dr. Celia Earl and Christmas in July volunteers praised the department's volunteers for packing and distributing supplies and noted the project serves thousands of children and has provided over 62,000 children with necessities across the program's history.
Finally, the commission proclaimed Nov. 13 as World Kindness Day in Hallandale Beach and endorsed a year-long Kindness County initiative led by local schools, Police Athletic League and community partners. Jonathan Carrillo of the Police Athletic League and other partners said the campaign aims to expand student-led kindness programs and community volunteering across the city.
Why it matters: The proclamations highlight partnerships between the city, nonprofits and the police department to address food and essential needs and promote civic engagement and youth programs.
Ending: Commission members urged residents to support the nonprofits and noted ways to donate and volunteer; staff said donation links and program details would be available through city and nonprofit websites.
