Council approves appropriations for Westminster Station repurchase and Fire Station 8; WIDA adopts companion funding resolution

At the Aug. 11 Westminster City Council meeting, councilors approved two appropriation measures and the city’s redevelopment authority adopted a companion resolution.

Council Bill 24 (first reading) — Repurchase of Westminster Station: Council voted to pass first reading of Council Bill 24, moving $600,000 from 2025 general fund carryover into the 2025 General Capital Improvement Fund to repurchase a parcel referenced as the Westminster Station re‑acquisition. The motion passed on a 5–1 roll call vote; one councilor voted no and cited concerns about municipal land purchases and long‑term fiscal impacts.

Council Bill 25 (first reading) — Fire Station 8: Council passed first reading of Council Bill 25, a supplemental appropriation to support Fire Station 8. The appropriation was identified as funding from the North Huron Urban Renewal Area and the motion passed on a 6–0 roll call.

Westminster Economic Development Authority Resolution 242: Immediately after the city council session, the Westminster Economic Development Authority (WIDA) held its meeting and adopted Resolution 242, authorizing the WIDA supplemental appropriation for the North Huron URA Fire Station 8 project. The WIDA vote was 6–0.

Ending: Council approved first readings and the WIDA board adopted the companion resolution; both appropriations will proceed through required paperwork and return for final readings as dictated by the city’s budget and appropriation process.
