Bonner County accepts two ITD airport grants — $50,000 for Sandpoint and $263,000 for Priest River

Bonner County accepted two Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) airport grants to fund facility and pavement work at county airports without a required county match.

Sandpoint Airport: Director Shuck asked the board to accept a $50,000 Leading Idaho Initiative (ITD) grant to fund insulation and heating of an existing county hangar so it can be repurposed for snow‑removal equipment storage. Shuck recommended accepting the grant; the county comptroller confirmed the county currently has the cash available to front expenditures if necessary, and staff noted state reimbursements are typically processed quickly. The board approved acceptance and later approved the required resolution recorded in the packet.

Priest River Airport: Shuck also presented an ITD Leading Idaho Initiative grant of $263,000 to fund pavement maintenance at Priest River Airport, including crack sealing, seal coating and remarking of runway, taxiway, apron and tie‑down areas as described in the grant exhibits. The board approved acceptance of the $263,000 grant and signed the related resolution.

Both grants were approved by roll call with no county match required; commissioners asked auditor/auditing staff to include cash‑flow checks in future reviews to ensure the county can front costs pending state reimbursement, and auditing staff said timing and cash availability would be reviewed when projects are scheduled.
