School board approves policy updates as a block; attorney to advertise extensive rule and conduct changes

The Polk County School Board approved a package of policy updates as part of a public hearing on July 29 and authorized its attorney to advertise additional policy revisions and code-of-conduct changes for a Sept. 9 public hearing.
The board approved revisions earlier posted for policies including military leave, student assessment, entrance requirements, absences for religious holidays, care of students with chronic health conditions, graduation requirements, student conduct, facilities planning and wellness. The motion to adopt these policies as presented passed on voice vote.
In a separate action, the board's attorney, Mr. Green, requested authority to publish notices for a broader slate of rule-development policy updates and code-of-conduct revisions prompted by recent legislation. Green listed more than two dozen items he will advertise for Sept. 9, including standards of ethical conduct; program instruction; virtual instruction; exceptional student education; instructional materials challenges and allocation; withdraw from school; student progression and promotion; student parental rights; construction contracting; acquisition of professional services; and small unmanned aircraft systems.
