Board approves family-funded reflection garden at Clark County High School

The Clark County School Board on July 21 approved a proposal from Nina Pierce to establish a reflection garden at Clark County High School in memory of her daughter, Hayden Smallwood, and former student Madison Mallory.
Board members said Ms. Pierce and the families have agreed to supply materials and ongoing maintenance; the item was presented with a site plan showing placement along the student drop-off and pick-up area in front of the high school. "Both of our families combined have put in the money to purchase all of the material. And there'll be no expense to the school," Ms. Pierce told the board.
During discussion, a board member offered to supply a hand-forged bench at no charge and suggested vocational shop students could assist with fabrication; Mr. Wilson and others noted the district might want to consider a prepared on-campus location for future family memorials.
The board approved the reflection garden by voice vote. Facilities staff and the high-school administration will coordinate installation and maintenance logistics with the families.
