Commissioners authorized remote participation for Commissioner Tammy Anderson after she stated she was in Buxton, North Carolina for personal business relating to a real estate closing. The commission took a roll call vote to permit her to participate electronically, and the motion passed with all members recorded as voting yes.
The commission adopted revised bylaws after discussion that the draft reflected changes previously discussed at the work session. A motion to adopt the revised bylaws carried on roll call with all members voting yes.
Finally, the commission voted to cancel its August 28 regular business meeting because there were no public hearing items expected on that agenda; the motion passed on roll call with all members voting yes.
Other business: The commission noted appointments to the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) committee made by the chair (the chair named Miss Knoepa as chairman of the CIP committee and Mister Womack as the regular member); staff explained the county is restarting the CIP process after a COVID-era pause and the committee is expected to run a short schedule of meetings likely starting in September and concluding around November. Staff said the draft comprehensive plan review is available on the Planning Department web page and that a joint Planning Commission/Board of Supervisors meeting is planned as part of the public engagement schedule in October, with a public hearing anticipated at the Planning Commission's November meeting and the Board of Supervisors in December.
No public hearings were scheduled for the August meeting period, and staff noted zoning ordinance amendments (including rules on chickens in residential districts) are being drafted with anticipated Planning Commission consideration after the start of the new year.
