The board appointed Ebony Sensaman Johnson as an associate mental health clinician and Evander Gonzalez as a mental health clinician. The superintendent said both appointments were approved by unanimous vote during the board's closed session and presented brief professional backgrounds in open session.
Superintendent Sachs summarized Johnson's experience as including work as a therapist, educator, case manager and community organizer in school‑based, carceral and community mental‑health settings. The superintendent said one reference described Johnson as "well versed in trauma informed and culturally responsive therapy" and noted she holds a Bachelor of Arts in journalism from San Francisco State University, an educational specialist credential from Sonoma State University, and a master's degree in counseling psychology from the Wright Institute; she is a registered associate marriage and family therapist with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
The superintendent described Evander Gonzalez as bringing a "deep and well rounded clinical background," including prior work delivering educationally related mental health services in Modesto City Schools and roles in prevention and early intervention. The superintendent said Gonzalez holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from California State University, Stanislaus, a Master of Arts in marriage and family therapy from Brandon University, is a licensed marriage and family therapist and is fluent in Spanish.
Both appointments were announced as having been approved "by unanimous vote" and will be effective Sept. 8, 2025, the superintendent said. The board did not record any public speakers on these appointments during open session.
