Local youth soccer club asks Universal City council for field access as program grows

Representatives of Intensity Soccer Training told the Universal City City Council Sept. 16 that the program has expanded to 112 registered participants for its first outdoor season and requested help finding local practice and game fields.
"We've outgrown the facility that we have," said William Martinez, who identified himself and gave a local address. He said the program has operated in Universal City for about two years (indoor) and this is its first outdoor season. Martinez said the group currently uses facilities outside the city and that Universal City fields are rented through 2026.
Martinez asked the council to consider availability and shared use of city fields as the program grows; he said the club is willing to share field time with other groups and emphasized the local membership in the program.
Mayor Tom Maxwell thanked Martinez and asked him to meet with city staff, specifically Randy Lunsman, to review options outside of the public meeting. "I'm gonna ask that Mister Randy Lunsman you meet with him at a later date. We can't discuss it up here," Maxwell said; Martinez agreed to coordinate.
Council members and staff did not make any formal commitments during the public comment period; the mayor directed staff to follow up with Martinez to explore immediate and longer-term field availability.
The request came during the Citizens to Be Heard portion of the agenda. No ordinance, permit application or council action on facilities or scheduling was taken at the meeting; next steps are a staff-level meeting and any formal agenda item would require future council consideration.
