The Chilton County Board of Education’s superintendent announced that Chilton County Schools has secured a $10,500,000 state grant to support a new career technical innovation center, and said the funds are restricted to brick-and-mortar work and equipment, not salaries.
The superintendent told the board the grant is dedicated to the project’s construction and equipment costs and that the district will not use the funds for personnel. She thanked staff members and board members who assisted with grant writing and stakeholder meetings.
District officials said they expect to have a site selected by mid‑September and anticipate completing survey and layout work soon. The superintendent said the district will await approval and a legal description from Jefferson State’s board before finalizing property documentation and proceeding to the Department of Construction Management (DCM). Board discussion indicated the district hopes to put the project out to bid by November, subject to approvals and external scheduling.
The superintendent also reported related capital improvements: new auditorium seats were installed at Jemison High School, and grant-funded seat replacements for Verbena High School and renovations for Thorsby and Maplesville are planned; two of the four planned auditorium seat projects have been completed or scheduled.
Board members praised the grant award and staff efforts; no additional board action was taken at the meeting beyond acknowledgement and planning direction.
