Cascade City Council approves Dec. meeting-date change and awards curb-and-sidewalk contract

Cascade City Council on Aug. 25 approved two resolutions and the consent agenda during a meeting that also included a policy discussion about a potential storm sewer utility fee.
The council approved Resolution No. 90-25 to adjust the city council meeting schedule for December 2025 so the council will hold a single meeting in the month on Dec. 15, 2025, to accommodate the city’s software go-live and the holiday schedule. The motion to approve the resolution was made by Councilmember Weber and seconded by Councilmember Gail. The roll-call vote was unanimous: Weber, Hush, Gail, Delaney and Olyphant voted aye.
The council awarded a contract under Resolution No. 91-25 to replace 200 feet of curb and gutter and to replace a sidewalk. Two bids were listed in the record: Eastern Iowa Excavating and Concrete at $19,313.85 and Coil Concrete Construction at $11,386. The council approved the lower bid from Coil Concrete Construction. The motion to approve the award was made by Councilmember Delaney and seconded by Councilmember Hush. The roll-call vote was unanimous: Weber, Hush, Gail, Delaney and Olyphant voted aye.
The council also approved the consent agenda, which included city council minutes for Aug. 11, 2025; park board minutes Aug. 11, 2025; Cascade Public Library Board minutes Aug. 7, 2025; Cascade Municipal Utilities Board minutes Aug. 13, 2025; Cascade Economic Development Corporation minutes July 16, 2025; Jones County Economic Development minutes July 22, 2025; month-end financial reports for July 2025; and claims for Aug. 25, 2025. The consent agenda motion was made by Councilmember Delaney and seconded; the roll-call vote was unanimous.
Why it matters: the meeting-date change is intended to ease staff workload during a planned software implementation in December; the curb-and-sidewalk contract funds localized infrastructure repairs and was awarded to the lowest bidder identified in the staff report.
Formal actions recorded at the Aug. 25 meeting will appear in the minutes and contract files maintained by city staff.
