Teton County delays outgoing comment letter on Bridger‑Teton assessment to add roadless and river concerns

Teton County commissioners on Aug. 18 continued consideration of the county's outgoing comment letter on the Bridger‑Teton National Forest assessment so staff could add material and obtain final board edits. The board set the item for further consideration at its Aug. 19 meeting.
Chris Colligan, Public Works project manager, presented the draft and invited additional input from commissioners. Commissioners asked that the letter note the county's 2018 Wyoming Public Lands Initiative (WPLI) resolution and add a reference that Teton County holds a long‑term state lands lease on Munger Mountain intended for recreation and protection. "At the board's direction, absolutely," Colligan said about adding language tying the county lease to contiguous forest roadless habitat.
Commissioners also asked staff to ask the Forest Service to include full wildlife migration data and to draw attention to wild‑and‑scenic river considerations. Commissioner Carlman specifically cited recent migration research from the USGS cooperative unit in Laramie and urged that the county request that the wilderness inventory and wild‑and‑scenic assessments be shared with cooperating agencies before the draft environmental impact statement.
The board voted to continue the item to the Aug. 19 meeting to give staff time to incorporate suggested edits and return the letter for final approval. No final outgoing letter was adopted on Aug. 18.
