Rules Committee recommends approval of Eleanor Cox for Historic Preservation Commission seat

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors Rules Committee on July 28, 2025, moved to forward the mayor’s nomination of Eleanor Cox to the Historic Preservation Commission, term ending Dec. 31, 2028, to the full board with a positive recommendation.
Multiple preservation organizations and practitioners spoke in favor of Cox during the public comment period. Woody LaBounty, president and CEO of San Francisco Heritage, said Cox is “qualified for the seat” and that San Francisco Heritage “heartily endorses her nomination.” John Haber, field services director for the California Preservation Foundation, and Keith Park, president of the California Garden & Landscape History Society, each described working with Cox and endorsed her appointment. Christopher Pollock, historian in residence for the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, also testified in support of Cox’s qualifications.
President Mandelmann thanked the mayor’s office and Andre Adeyemi for presenting the candidate and described the commission as “important” for protecting historic resources amid anticipated land-use changes. Mandelmann moved that the committee forward the nomination as a committee report with a positive recommendation and to delete language rejecting the nomination throughout the legislation. The clerk recorded unanimous ayes from Vice Chair Cheryl, Member Madelmann and Chair Walton; the motion passed without objection.
The committee also noted that Cox provided a written statement to the offices on July 25 and that several members of the public were present to speak on her behalf. The nomination will proceed to the full Board of Supervisors for final consideration.
