Boyertown reports 6,191 students on first day; district highlights more than 30 new professional hires

Superintendent Dr. David Heizer opened the recognition segment Aug. 26 by thanking staff for summer onboarding and presenting an opening‑day video and introductions for newly hired teachers. Heizer reported the district’s first‑day K–12 enrollment as 6,191 students. He provided additional counts: senior class at Boyertown Area Senior High (BASH) enrollment of 507 and kindergarten enrollment of 388. He said the district currently has 86 students placed in alternative education placements and transports 525 nonpublic school students located within a 10‑mile radius of district boundaries.
During the recognition segment the board viewed short self‑introductions from many of the new hires (examples from the video): "Hi. I'm Ava Anderson. I am teaching fifth grade English at Boyertown Elementary School," and "Hi. My name is Ally Baker. I'll be teaching tech ed at Boyertown Area High School." The packet and the video include more than 30 named new professional staff and separate support‑staff hires.
Heizer also summarized hiring totals presented to the board: 30 new professional hires, six long‑term substitutes who became contracted professional employees, 14 professional staff who transferred within the district, and 18 support staff hired and onboarded.
