Council reviews short-term traffic change at middle-school drop-off to improve safety

The pilot closes the outside lane with cones so motorists drop students off in a single-staging lane and avoid swinging wide into the intersection. “We no longer gotta go in this, but I know what you’re saying,” Trent said of the new configuration, which staff reported has been in place about a week and a half.
Trent asked council members to drive by and observe the change; he said if the pilot proves effective staff will pursue longer-term design changes tied to future road connections and school-campus planning. He noted the city previously worked with the district and state agencies on other circulation improvements and that more substantial changes will require multi-year coordination.
No formal action was taken; staff asked council members to monitor the pilot and report back if safety or traffic flow issues persist.
