County waives building-permit fees for volunteer-led stadium cover project

Klamath County commissioners voted Sept. 3 to waive building-permit fees for a volunteer-led project to add a cover over the stands at a local stadium.
The request was presented by Stephanie Brown from the county building department and John Stillwell, a volunteer who said he and his family intend to fund most of the construction. Stillwell said the cover would reduce the risk of spectator injuries from foul balls, ease climate-related maintenance and snow removal, and help the county continue hosting regional sports events that bring visiting teams and families to the community.
The interim building official recommended the fee waiver, and a commissioner moved to approve that recommendation. The board approved the waiver by voice vote; the chair voted aye.
Presenters said the amount of fees to be waived was not yet known because a formal plan-review application and fee estimate have not been completed. County staff encouraged the applicants to apply for tourism grants in future cycles to offset other project costs.
The county commissioners thanked the presenters and wished them well on fundraising and construction.
