Yamhill committee approves draft downtown design-code recommendations for planning commission review

The Yamhill Economic Development Committee approved a set of draft design-code recommendations aimed at guiding development and rehabilitation in the city’s Central Business District (CBD) and agreed to forward the package to the planning commission for review.

The recommendations — compiled from examples the committee reviewed from other Oregon towns and statewide guidance used by small downtowns — focus on three priorities: design standards for new construction and adaptive reuse, pedestrian-oriented streetscape features (awnings, recessed entries, sidewalk furnishings) and objective sign and color guidance to reduce discretionary delays. The committee also asked staff to confirm how the draft aligns with recently adopted city code updates and to bring the package to the planning commission on Oct. 20 for formal consideration.
