Spokane Valley council adjourns to executive session to discuss pending litigation; no action planned

Deputy Mayor Hattenberg called a special Spokane Valley City Council meeting to order on Aug. 19, 2025, and moved the council into an executive session to discuss pending litigation for approximately 45 minutes, saying “no action will be taken upon return to open session.”
The motion to enter closed session was seconded and approved by the members present. Before the executive session, the council also considered a motion to excuse Mayor Haley; council members responded “Aye,” and the mayor was excused.
A roll call during the meeting recorded Council members Wieck, Merkel, Higgins, Padden and Yeager as present. After the votes the council adjourned into the executive session; the public portion of the meeting ended with no additional public business recorded.
