Board advances John H. Walker middle school classroom addition and accepts federal education grants

Superintendent Beinyer and Business Administrator DeVita told the board the agenda included bids for the second phase of construction to add four classrooms to the John H. Walker Middle School media center; DeVita said the first phase was completed over the summer in the middle-school basement and a third phase is scheduled for next summer. Officials said the district's plans to transition sixth grade to the middle school for the 2025'26 school year remain on track.
DeVita also reported that the district will accept federal ESEA grant funds covering Title I, Title II, Title III, Title III Immigrant and Title IV, totaling approximately $574,000; he said there had been a delay in receiving the allocations and that the grants would be submitted this month. Representatives from the auditing firm named in the meeting were in the district to begin the audit for the 2024'25 school year.
Committee chairs gave brief updates: Miss Stanczyk Martin said the academic committee discussed associate-degree pathways, the 2025'26 mentoring plan and the district testing schedule; administrative and finance committee reports summarized facilities updates, audit and personnel matters. The board then approved a slate of consent resolutions by roll call: academic resolutions 1'2, administrative resolutions 1'3, finance resolutions 1'18, policy resolutions 1' and personnel resolution 1. During roll call on the academic resolutions, Dr. D'Elia recorded an abstention on item 2, section 6.
