The Woodbury County Board of Supervisors voted to ask the county zoning commission to consider amending the zoning ordinance so that “public service garage” would be a conditional use in the agricultural preservation zoning district.
Supervisor Matthew Bittinger moved the measure and Supervisor Dietrich seconded; the motion passed unanimously by the four supervisors present.
The board described the change as forward-looking. Bittinger said the amendment is intended to clear up the ordinance to allow the county to move or rebuild “machine sheds” or secondary roads in ways that better coordinate with nearby cities. Daniel Priestley said the zoning commission will “hold a public hearing, look into the matter in detail, and deliver back some type of recommendation.”
The motion directs the zoning commission to review the land-use summary table in section 3.4 of the Woodbury County zoning ordinance and to report back with recommended language and any related matters. The board did not adopt an ordinance; it initiated the consideration process and sent the matter to the commission for study and public input.
No timeline for the commission’s review or for subsequent board action was given during the discussion.
The item was taken near the start of the meeting’s substantive agenda; no public comments were recorded on this item during the session.
