Ambulance, sheriff and fire reports: AMR and sheriff statistics; commissioners approve firefighter hire

Don Brooks of AMR presented the ambulance service monthly report for Sept. 1–14: a total of 53 calls and 25 transports across listed communities (Blue Mound 1/0 transports; Centerville 9/3; LaSine 9/4; Montana 1/1; Lynn Valley 4/3; Mound City 5/2; Parker 5/2; Pleasanton 19/10).
The sheriff's report recorded 51 total prisoners (one farmed out for competency evaluation), calls for service totals (562), jail contacts (4,652), civil papers served (27), VIN inspections (8), new cases opened (31), cases closed (11) and vehicle crashes (4). Bail contacts and livestock-out statistics were also provided in the report.
Randy Hegwold of Nantucket Rural Fire Emergency Management reported five calls for the week and a year-to-date total of 436 calls. He asked the commission's permission to hire Benjamin Souza as a probationary firefighter at Station 910 (Mound City); the commission approved the hire and noted that Souza will forego the preemployment physical and drug exam because he is already a full-time county employee. Hegwold also announced a fundraiser breakfast to raise funds for a new air compressor at the Parker station.
Commissioners recorded the reports and approved the firefighter hire as a formal action.
