Superintendent Dr. Cummings used the board meeting on Aug. 7 to welcome students and staff back for the 2025–26 school year and to summarize early‑year activities.
Cummings said she visited multiple schools during the opening week, praised staff for preparation and highlighted a recent districtwide dual‑enrollment registration event hosted by Paradise Valley High School with partners from the Maricopa County Community College District, Paradise Valley Community College and Rio Salado. She congratulated Assistant Superintendent Jill Berrigan on receiving the William Lovett Memorial Award from the Arizona Association of School Business Officials and thanked staff who supported new‑teacher orientation and mentorship programs. Cummings reminded families to complete the district's 2025–26 annual update online at portal.pvschools.net.
During Call to the Public, Heather Schmidt, president of the Paradise Valley Education Association, thanked the board and cabinet for attending new certified‑employee orientation, congratulated staff who supported orientation for more than 180 new educators and praised transportation and facilities staff for preparing schools and buses for the opening.
