PVUSD board approves ASBA 2026 draft agenda; members ask for context on dropped and moved items

The Paradise Valley Unified School District governing board on Aug. 7 voted unanimously to approve the district position on the Arizona School Boards Association's draft 2026 political agenda and directed the district delegate to represent that position at ASBA's delegate assembly.

Board members spent extended time reviewing redlined edits in the draft and asked staff to seek clarification from ASBA on why certain items were removed or moved. Board President Greenberg and several members said they were concerned that a proposed removal of language urging “all eligible voters to exercise their right to participate in elections” (referred to in the materials as item 4) lacked an explanation in the packet. Several members also objected to the apparent removal of board authority language related to student suspensions and asked staff to clarify whether changes reflected consolidation into other sections or a substantive policy shift.

Board members suggested examples of where text had been consolidated (for example, language about transportation and career‑technical education appeared to be repositioned within section 1), and some members proposed splitting broad items so that repair‑funding requests would stand separately from full replacement/rebuild requests. Members emphasized they expect ASBA staff to provide rationale for edits so local boards can vote with fuller context.

After discussion, Dr. Lim moved to approve the district's position as presented and to instruct the appointed delegate to represent that position at the ASBA assembly; the motion passed unanimously.
