The Nordonia Hills City Schools Board of Education discussed pending Ohio legislation that members said could affect school funding and reviewed the district's September financial forecast before voting to approve routine changes to appropriations.
Board members heard a detailed legislative update on several bills affecting the "20-mill floor" and levy authority, including references to House Bill 129, House Bill 309, House Bill 186 and House Bill 335. The speaker who provided the overview said the measures under consideration could change how districts calculate certain property-tax-related revenue and that some districts statewide could face reductions in funding. The board member emphasized that Nordonia does not currently operate on the 20-mill floor, but that many other Ohio districts do.
The treasurer presented the September forecast and cash-balance information, reporting that the district's cash balance for fiscal 2025 ranged roughly from $19.2 million to $20.7 million and noting changes in encumbrances and timing differences in revenue receipts such as homestead rollback payments. The treasurer also described shifts in expense timing for technology purchases and said salaries and benefits were largely stable. The treasurer said the forecast and a revised appropriations resolution would be posted on the treasurer's page of the district website.
After discussion, the board approved the monthly change in appropriations by roll call. The motion carried on a roll-call vote with all board members recorded as voting yes.
The board's next regularly scheduled meeting was announced for Monday, 11/24/2025 at 7 p.m. at Northfield Elementary.
