Enrollment update: district reports lower-than-anticipated kindergarten and overall changes

He explained the district's year-to-date change moved from a prior increase to a smaller increase of about 17 students compared with the same point last year; he also said the district is approximately 56 students behind last year's kindergarten enrollment. Horton attributed the change primarily to population movement rather than dissatisfaction with district schools.
Horton said the district will continue to monitor enrollment and that numbers often change through September and into October; he did not recommend program changes at this meeting.
Board members responded with comments of concern and encouragement to continue tracking the figures. No formal action was taken.
