Volunteers with the Rams Rising referendum committee delivered petitions and the Southeast Polk Community School District Board of Directors voted to order a $51,000,000 general obligation school bond election for Nov. 4.
Jess Branchreg Norris, speaking for Rams Rising, told the board the committee gathered signatures for a petition to place a 2025 bond referendum on the ballot. She said the petition target was 1,399 signatures (25% of the last election turnout of 5,596) and presented 1,926 signatures, which she identified as 34.4% of that turnout. The board accepted the petitions during public comment.
At an agenda item later in the meeting, a motion to approve a resolution ordering an election on the issuance of $51,000,000 in general obligation school bonds passed by unanimous vote. The board did not discuss alternative bond amounts on the record at the time of the vote.
Board members thanked the volunteers for gathering signatures and noted the work that would follow if the referendum proceeds. No formal campaign or expenditure details were discussed during the meeting.
