Resident urges council to monitor steep rent increases in Woodbury Park

During the council’s open forum, Michelle Pascoe, a Woodbury resident who said she lives in the Woodbury Park area, told the City Council her rent recently rose 8% and that some tenants in the same area experienced increases as high as 20%. Pascoe said she pays about $1,700 a month for a one-bedroom, one-bath unit and asked the council to “keep that on your radar” and to be aware that other residents may bring similar concerns to the city.
The mayor thanked Pascoe for speaking and said staff would follow up with information and a response. The council did not take action during the meeting on renters’ protections or rent-capping policies; Pascoe cited a Saint Paul cap of 3% as a point of comparison.
