Ottawa Area Chamber reports on concerts and fireworks funding; K Camp awards Franklin County $5,341.17 for risk management

Representatives of the Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce updated the Franklin County Commission on summer events and tourism-grant spending during the commission’s Aug. 20 meeting, and the county received a $5,341.17 award from risk-pool provider K Camp for its risk-management work.
Patrick Smith, identified in the meeting as the risk manager at K Camp, presented a recognition check for $5,341.17 and praised county efforts to reduce property-loss liabilities through training and inspections. “We do appreciate the steps that Franklin County has taken to reduce the risk of property loss and liabilities,” Patrick Smith said. He noted the county formed a risk-management committee and thanked staff for training and inspections that led to the award.
A representative of the Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce (identified in the record as Brad) reported the chamber used a TGT tourism grant allocation to support a July 4 Chautauqua Festival fireworks show and a two-concert summer series. The chamber reported receiving $1,950 from the county under the TGT program to support the fireworks display. The speaker estimated combined attendance near 1,000 across the two concerts and described ancillary supports such as a beer garden, food trucks and downtown business participation.
The chamber representative said city of Ottawa is a major sponsor and that the chamber will again seek county grant support in spring 2026 for a larger fireworks show to mark the United States’ 250th anniversary. He also promoted an upcoming Ladies Night Out event scheduled for Sept. 26, a chamber-sponsored downtown scavenger-hunt and shopping event.
County staff thanked the chamber for outreach and emphasized the value of chamber presentations in strengthening relationships and public understanding of county programs. No public comments were offered during the meeting’s public-comment period.
The K Camp award check will be processed through normal county accounting procedures and the chamber will continue to be eligible to request TGT funds during the county’s grant round next spring, the chamber representative said.
