Council amends fee ordinance to restore planning fees and update residential electrical permits

The Woodbury City Council adopted Ordinance 261 amending section 2-3 (fees for various services) to reinstate community development fees and update portions of the city’s electrical permit schedule. The ordinance passed by roll call (Council member Wilson: aye; Council member Morris: aye; Council member Santini: aye; Council member Stafford: aye; Mayor Burt: aye).
City staff explained the changes are administrative and procedural: community development fees (planning and zoning) had been inadvertently omitted from last year’s fee ordinance and are being reinstated without substantive changes. Staff also proposed updates to residential electrical permit fees ahead of a new permitting and licensing software rollout; changes include simplifying base fees, folding typical reinspection costs into permit fees to avoid later reinspection billing, removing certain small add-ons, and aligning city fees more closely with comparable cities and the state electrical fee schedule.
Janelle (city staff) told the council these changes are intended to improve transparency for homeowners who will apply online and to reduce staff time spent collecting reinspection fees after a project closes. The council held a public hearing on the fee changes prior to the vote; no members of the public registered opposition during the hearing. The ordinance authorizes staff to publish a summary of the fee ordinance in the city’s official newspaper.
