Kate, the district's lobbyist, said the state passed a $115 billion budget of which approximately 33% — about $38 billion — was for education. She noted early proposed reductions to accelerated-options funding (AP, IB and CAPE) were rolled back after advocacy. She also said the Legislature repealed a prior mandate on school start times to give districts greater flexibility and passed a cell-phone pilot approach requiring the state to select a small number of high-school pilots for more restrictive rules.
Rep. Mooney said his team worked to secure $3,500,000 in funding for Bruce Hall and encouraged district staff to prepare project requests for the next session cycle; he emphasized tight deadlines and that the House will require requests by Nov. 21. Mooney described a challenging session environment but said the $3.5 million would “get you guys off to a good start.”
Board members thanked the representatives and said they would continue preparing legislative requests for the upcoming cycle.
