The Brimfield Board of Trustees on Aug. 7 approved an amendment to the township zoning resolution that updates publication requirements to reflect House Bill 315, authorizing required notices to appear on the township website and social media instead of in a newspaper.
The change, presented by Mike Ladd of the townshipzoning and economic development office, modifies chapter 1 (administrative procedures and enforcement) of the zoning resolution to remove code language that mandates newspaper publication. "This changes all the code sections requiring it to go to newspaper," Ladd said during the meeting.
At the meeting the trustees said that regional planning staff and the zoning commission reviewed the amendment and recommended approval. There were no public commenters on this amendment during the townshippublic hearing. After discussion, the board voted by roll call: Trustee Nick voted yes and Trustee Sue Fields voted yes; the motion passed.
The trustees and staff framed the revision as an administrative update to align local code with state law arising from House Bill 315 and with the township's existing practice of posting meeting notices online. Mike Ladd told the board the change simply replaces references to newspaper publication with website and social media notice language; other enforcement provisions in the zoning code were not altered.
Trustee Nick confirmed the measure had been duly advertised and processed through the usual review steps before the trustees' public hearing. The board did not identify any additional policy or budgetary implications tied to the change. The amendment is effective as approved by the trustees.
The board did not schedule further public hearings on this item. Staff said they would update the zoning resolution text and the township's public-notice templates to reflect the new publication method.
