Ken Simons, a La Veta Pines resident, told the Huerfano County Board of County Commissioners that Laveta Pines landowners and adjacent property owners discovered "very alarming information" regarding a temporary assembly permit for a three-day Labor Day event that was under review by county staff.
Simons said the group documented their concerns, emailed the material to county staff member Carl Young the day before the meeting, and copied the commissioners. "They discovered some very alarming information this weekend regarding the temporary assembly permit for the 3-day Labor Day party that is currently under review," Simons said. He asked the commissioners to review the emailed information before making a decision and provided a contact name, Bill Peterson, for follow-up questions.
County staff acknowledged receipt of the comment and said they would review the emailed materials. The commenter's remarks occurred during the public-comment portion of the meeting; the board did not take any immediate action on the permit at that meeting.
Next steps: Staff indicated they will review the materials Simons said were emailed to Carl Young; no vote or staff direction to approve or deny the assembly permit was recorded during the meeting.
