The Salinas Airport Commission voted to forward the 2025 California International Airshow permit to the Salinas City Council for final approval, advancing plans for an Oct. air show that organizers say will include the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and other military demonstrations.
"The 44th annual California International Air Show will be here in October," the presenter said, noting that the event will mark a milestone year for the show. The presenter said the Blue Angels will appear and that the show will include a U.S. Air Force F-16 Viper demonstration and F/A-18 Super Hornets.
Organizers announced a special recognition day: Saturday, Oct. 4, will be Everett Alvarez Day. The presenter said Everett Alvarez is a Salinas resident who graduated from Salinas High School, became a naval aviator during the Vietnam War era, was shot down in Vietnam and served a prolonged period as a prisoner of war. "We will be hosting Everett and his family," the presenter said.
Logistics and public-safety planning described to the commission included a permanent crowd-line layout used the past two years, the main public entrance at Skyway and Airport Boulevard, VIP parking at the terminal gate, and an air show office opening at 240 Mortenson Avenue after Labor Day. Organizers told commissioners ticket sales were strong and that security coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration and local partners remains a priority.
The commission heard that moving the crowd line farther south and more parallel to the flight line over recent years has reduced tenant impacts during setup and during the show. Organizers said tenants receive two complimentary passes and that the revised layout allowed ramp space to be cleared in the evening for aircraft taxiing.
A motion to forward the permit to the City Council carried on the record. Commissioners did not take the final permit decision at the meeting; the council will consider the permit in a subsequent public meeting.
