The approval came after a staff presentation and brief questions about sign dimensions and placement. John (town planner and zoning administrator) told the panel the applicant proposed two non‑illuminated signs: one mounted above the door and a two‑sided “shingle” bracket sign under the storefront overhang. Staff recommended approval, noting the signs meet the downtown signage standard at Section 1‑12‑11 of the town code.
Amy Martin, retail manager for Rebs Candies, said the shop expects to open in August and confirmed the signage would not be illuminated. Commissioners asked about mounting height, overhang clearance and the company’s signature orange color. Martin said the shingle sign would hang under the overhang and sit roughly 7 feet above the sidewalk; the orange is part of the company logo and the applicant had removed a request for neon at staff’s request.
Commissioner Beinec moved to approve the two signs and Commissioner Butts seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
The planning commission noted that final exact sign placement and exact height will be confirmed during the permit review process.
