County executive announces $30 million award for local community-based juvenile corrections facility

Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronain told council at the Aug. 5 meeting that the county secured a $30 million state award to establish the state's only community-based corrections facility for youth in the county.
Ronain said the award came from the Department of Youth Services and that the county competed with Hamilton and Franklin counties. He credited council members and county staff in public works, health and human services, and juvenile court for advocacy that helped land the award. The executive said the facility will keep more youth closer to their families and represents a major development in county juvenile justice services.
No formal council vote was required for the announcement; Ronain said he had communicated the result to the governor and the Department of Youth Services and thanked staff and council for their support. Council members responded with thanks and recognition of the interagency effort.
No project-specific contract, budget appropriation or site decision was finalized at the Aug. 5 meeting; Ronain said further occasions will follow for public recognition and next steps.
