Josh Friedman, director of safety and security for Scottsdale Unified School District, said district policy has not changed: students may travel to school on e-bikes according to city law, but "once you hit our property you cannot ... use the motor." Friedman said the district generally sees good compliance with that rule but has observed injuries when students ride at high speeds to and from school.
Why it matters: city and state rules affect who can legally operate faster e-bikes and where those bicycles may be ridden, and schools see the consequences when students do not follow traffic rules. That creates both student-safety and liability concerns for families and the district.
